CopaSac

Copasac is a sac screening system, screening down to 3mm with no moving parts, using disposable sacs. Being of modular design, it can be made to fit into most sewage treatment applications, be it retrofit to an existing works or as part of a new scheme.

Applications

The prime application of a Copasac is to screen settled sewage in a dosing syphon or distribution chamber to improve the integrity of the works by protecting the filter sparge arm nozzles from blockage.

The applications for Copasac has now spread to include screening storm overflows, storm tanks and final effluent.

Typical Applications

• Filter arm protection on trickling filters.
• Emergency/storm overflow screen.
• Screening of final effluent.
• Don’t be afraid to experiment!

Copasacs have been used for a variety of other applications including:

• Screening of river water intakes for nuclear power stations.
• Screening of sea water intakes for nuclear submarines undergoing refits.
• Screening of waste from an elephant enclosure.
• Screening waste from yoghurt processing plant.
• Screening waste from vegetable process plant.

Operating Principle

Copasac, are installed directly into the flow path of the fluid being screened. Solids are retained in the sac, therefore preventing downstream problems, such as clogging of trickling filters, or aesthetic pollution of surface waters following a storm event.

The Copasac has been proven to reduce works visit frequency, and better distribution of effluent to the filter bed.

Copasacs are fitted with handles to facilitate removal, and when below ground level or mesh flooring we can supply our unique lifting handle attachment to prevent personal strain or injury.

Advantages

• Simple operation
• Low cost
• Easy installation
• Proven to reduce works maintenance
• Improve distribution of effluent to the filter bed
• Wide use of applications

Copasacs can be manufactured in GRP or Stainless Steel and is available in a variety of mesh sizes: 3mm, 6mm and 12mm.
The mesh size is dependant upon the application, as shown in the table Above.

Copasac modular design allows them to be retrofitted in almost any configuration in most locations on a sewage treatment works.

The disposable Copasac is attached to a GRP nose box by two pins. The moulded nose box is located in a modular GRP slider section for easy removal.

When the Copasac is about one quarter full, it should be disposed of. A draw cord ensures that the clean screening remain within the sac.

Accessories include:

• Lifting Handles
• Outlet Protection Grid
• Walkways
• Wheelie bins for collection and draining of used Copasacs
