The EWT™ gravity belt concentrator is based on the principle of solids-liquid separation, enhanced by chemical conditioning of the solid particles by either agglomeration or flocculation.
Three sequential unit operations are included:
- conditioning of the slurry gravity
- drainage of the liquid from the solid particles
- mild pressure filtration zone to enhance cake solids discharge
Conventional two-belt dewatering filters simply do not handle dilute sludges efficiently. When a low-solids feed is compressed too quickly the result is often lateral extrusion. Cake loss of this sort can be prevented by reducing belt speed, but only at the cost of reduced hydraulic capacity. When loading rates vary, the operator must choose between maintaining throughput or final cake moisture. The 3DP™ filter solves this dilemma by coupling a compact two-belt dewatering filter with a separately driven, fourteen-foot gravity belt thickener (GBT). The thickener boosts feed solids concentration to the beltpress by 300-400%, allowing a steeper pressure gradient to be applied in the compression zone without the risk of extrusion loss. 3DP™ filters provide hydraulic loading capacities that in some cases are more than double those of comparably sized two-belt filters.
