Copa® SR - Sand Separator

Copa® SR - Sand Separator

For separating solids and liquids for the treatment of sewage loaded with sand or other inorganic material.

Applications

The system can be used to separate sediments and heavy matter from production and process wastewater from waste disposal plants, chemical industry, food industry, paper industry, refineries etc. The throughput capacity is up to 35 l/s and sediment discharge up to 3 m3/h.

Typical applications include;

Municipal

•  Pre-treatment
•  Grit
•  Dewatering/classifying
•  Pulp and Paper Industry
•  High density cleaner rejects

Industrial

•  Sea food and fish processing - transportation of fish waste and fish meal
•  Meat processing/abattoirs - feed lot / stock washdown, transportation of waste from meat preparation and sausage production
•  Sugar / mill refining - cous cous, transport of beet cuttings, beet tops and washing residuals
•  Glass/ceramics - transport of cullet and residuals
•  Machining - aluminium and other metal chips
•  Composting / incineration - transport of domestic/industrial waste, garden waste, compost, ash and granulate
•  Fruit and vegetable processing - vegetable waste dewatering, transportation of fruit pulp, peelings, cores, stones and residues
•  Citrus processing - waste dewatering, transportation of fruit pulp, peelings, cores, stones, green waste and other residuals

Operating Principle

The Sand Separator type SR was designed on the basis of the know how gained from years of experience in the use of such units. Due to the special design of the inlet and overflow channel the overall performance of the unit is enhanced.

The overflow channel is located on the rear part of the unit and is separated by means of a submerged wall. Here, all floating solids entering with the sewage are retained with the liquid discharged through the overflow channel.

The bottom of the sand separator consists of a non-corrugated spiral conveyor on which the sediment is deposited. Apart from the sediment, any type of floating solids may be caught and discharged by the conveyor spiral. All material discharged will be dewatered at the same time. For this it is recommended to operate the spiral conveyor intermittently. Intermittent operating cycles allows for variable settling times to be adjusted each time fresh sewage is supplied.

Advantages

•  Economic and reliable
•  Simple robust design
•  Non-corrugated conveyor spiral
•  Unilaterally connect to drive unit
•  No bearings and seals below water level
•  Direct drive unit with very low speed and low power consumption
